Advancing Patient Health focuses on expanding access to innovative medicines while reducing environmental impact. Expanding the Boundaries of Science brings patient voices into research and ensures communication that empowers understanding. Fostering an Inclusive Workforce promotes a culture of awareness, learning, and purpose-driven action across teams.
To shape priorities, BMS works closely with patients, advocacy groups, and health partners to address pressing concerns such as access to care, climate resilience, and health equity. Their feedback has led to clearer consent forms, more compassionate trial materials, and culturally sensitive educational resources.
In early 2025, BMS integrated its Sustainability and Social Impact (SSI), Health Equity, and Patient Engagement teams under one shared purpose: to ensure patients and caregivers’ perspectives inform decisions we make. This integration means that what BMS learns from patients – whether it’s about transportation barriers to trial sites, the need for simpler digital tools, or the importance of emotional support during treatment – directly informs how they design, deliver, and communicate care.

Turning Listening into Action
BMS’s sustainability journey is constantly evolving. The company is working to move beyond traditional metrics to focus on outcomes and how its actions improve patient lives, strengthen communities, and contribute to long-term global health systems.
Patient input plays a key role in this process. Feedback from patients has helped BMS better understand and address barriers faced by those living in remote areas, guiding investments in community partnerships to help maintain continuity of care. Advocates have highlighted the need for flexible clinical trial visits, leading to hybrid pilot models that combine in-person and virtual participation, making research more inclusive and accessible.
By grounding initiatives in patient experience, BMS is helping to ensure its actions remain equitable, scalable, and relevant. This commitment reflects a belief that meaningful progress happens when science, empathy, and social responsibility move together.
