Hussain Jafri, Chief Executive Officer of the World Patients Alliance (WPA), attended and presented at the Axios International\u2013supported session on \u201cThe Care Ecosystem: Working Together to Make a Difference.\u201d He shared his insights during the panel discussion on \u201cUnderstanding Advocacy: What It Means and Why It Matters.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dr. Jafri emphasized the vital role of patient advocacy as a practical and life-saving tool in cancer care. He highlighted that advocacy ensures patients are not only treated but also heard, with health systems designed around their needs. Referring to the WHO Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021\u20132030 and the goals of Universal Health Coverage, he underscored that meaningful patient engagement is essential for equitable and effective healthcare.<\/p>\n
He shared examples of WPA\u2019s global initiatives where patient groups have successfully influenced cancer policies, improved access to diagnosis and treatment, and advanced people-centered care.
